About this project

As consultant UNDRR Gender Advisor from late 2022 to early 2024, Dr. Mary Picard had both inward-facing and outward-facing roles. Acting as UNDRR lead, in collaboration with UNFPA and UN Women, she supported and co-facilitated the development of the Gender Action Plan to Support Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai GAP), a project that HDC Rosanna Drew also supported - see our Sendai GAP project page for more details.

Within UNDRR, during 2023 Mary also provided internal organizational advice on DRR and gender equality, human rights and disability inclusion, gender assessments of project proposals, gender mainstreaming in program planning, and UN reporting compliance on gender equality. She also piloted a training of trainer programme on gender-responsive DRR for UNDRR global gender focal points and with national and provincial officials in Pakistan.

Earlier in 2022 Mary had also supported UNDRR in preparing a ‘Review of Gender and the Sendai Framework’ and the development of its organizational ‘Gender Strategy and Action Plan 2022-2025’, to dovetail with its three-year Strategic Plan.
