About this project

The Gender Action Plan to Support Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai GAP) aims to accelerate gender-responsive disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts and promoting and supporting women’s empowerment and leadership. It identifies nine key objectives and 33 recommended actions that align with the four priorities of the Sendai Framework. The Sendai GAP was co-led and facilitated UNDRR, UN Women and UNFPA.

HDC’s Dr Mary Picard acted as the UNDRR focal point for preparation of the Sendai GAP with UNDRR, UNFPA, and UN Women, launched in March 2024. Rosanna Drew was a gender consultant for UNDRR during this time and also supported the process.

During 2023, this included co-facilitation of three rounds of online consultations with Member States and other stakeholders in all global regions, working collaboratively to draft, review and incorporate written submissions. This assignment included organisational gender advice to UNDRR, training of trainers on gender and DRR, advice on gender mainstreaming in project proposals, supervision and editing of research reports.
