About this project

This report asks what needs to change in the approach of the United Nations system as a whole to make significant practical progress on gender equality in disaster risk reduction by 2030.

HDC provided senior consultant, Dr. Mary Picard, and consultant, Rosanna Drew, to research and draft a United Nations Joint Study on Gender Equality and Women’s Leadership in DRR.

Key project elements were: working to a joint UN committee consisting of UNDRR, UNFPA and UN Women; desk research on the literature and existing UN system policies; key informant interviews, designing and administering online surveys of UN system agencies and their analysis; public non-UN stakeholder surveys and analysis; drafting the report and formulating recommendations for the UN system in collaboration with the oversight committee.
