Tom Bamforth is a humanitarian and development practitioner with twenty years’ experience mainly in Asia, Pacific, and the Middle East with NGOs, Red Cross Movement and UN Agencies. His areas of specialisation include shelter and settlements, disaster risk management, humanitarian policy and advocacy, and emergency response coordination as well as participatory approaches to program design and M&E.

Tom has worked with IFRC, Australian Red Cross, IOM, UNHCR, Habitat for Humanity Australia, and CARE International. He has significant country experience managing programs and responding to crises in Türkiye (in response to the 2023 earthquake), Syria, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Philippines, Mozambique, Sudan (Darfur States), and across the Pacific Region. He has written extensively on humanitarian and development issues and is the author of The Rising Tide: among the islands and atolls of the Pacific Ocean and Deep Field: dispatches from the frontlines of aid relief from Pakistan to Kazan, the Punjab to the Pacific.
