About this project

This project provided an in-depth evaluation of the relevance, effectiveness and coherence of the IFRC global COVID-19 response, including responses from the global network of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, including case studies and examples from over 20 different country contexts. It identifies opportunities and recommendations for efforts going forward.

The IFRC’s response to COVID-19 demonstrated the value of the organisation as a network of local actors capable of delivering emergency response on a global scale. The report assesses the challenges for the IFRC to manage its sustainability to effectively respond to crises and retain sufficient capacities and resources in an international environment with many coinciding crises with lasting impacts.

The evaluation contributed to the wider organisational learning of the IFRC network in the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic and helped to guide the capacity building of the IFRC in its humanitarian assistance.
